Building an Oarling Dory

This has pictures of the building process for the Sam Devlin design Oarling rowing dory I built in July of 2004. The Oarling dory took me about a month of solid work to complete.

I love the dory. It have owned many different small row boats and this is the most enjoyable boat to row!

When I first got the boat it felt very tippy. But I did some warm water tests trying to swamp the boat and discovered that it is very difficult to turn over. I had to sit on the rail for what felt like a couple minutes to get enough water in the boat to have it really turn over. Then all I had to do was bail it out, pull myself into the boat, and away I went.

As you view through all the pictures and descriptions of the building process for the oarling dory you can resize the pictures bigger if you need (upper right hand corner).

I hope you enjoy exploring the Oarling Dory building process.
